Newton is City in Middlesex County which is approximately 7 miles west of Downtown Boston. Newton consists of thirteen villages and does not have a city center. Newton is a historic city which was first settled in 1630. According to the 2020 U.S. Census, the population of Newton was 88,923.
Newton is bordered by Brookline and Boston on the East, Watertown and Waltham on the north, Wellesley and Weston on the West, and Needham on the west. The Massachusetts Turnpike and Route 128 and Route 9 are major highways that run through the city, which makes it easy for commuting. In addition, Newton is accessible by the Commuter Rail, Green Line Train and Bus Public Transportation. The Charles River flows through parts of Newton, creating paths along the scenic river shoreline for walking, running and biking.
