Waterfront

Waterfront

Neighborhood Description

Boston Harbor has historically played an important role in the development, history and culture of the city. Today the waterfront is continuing an active and essential role in the makeup of Boston’s contemporary cultural life. It’s a choice destination for visitors and locals alike, year-round but especially in the warmer months. The waterfront features a mix of new-construction, full-amenity buildings and older wharf buildings that boast exposed brick and original wooden beams.
The Boston Harbor walk is an almost-continuous 43-mile park along Boston’s shoreline. The harbor walk connects Boston’s waterfront neighborhoods to Boston Harbor. It stretches from the Neponset River in lower Dorchester to Constitution Beach in East Boston via Charlestown, the North End, Downtown, Seaport, South Boston and Dorchester. In 2008, the opening of the Rose Kennedy Greenway, created a public park which wraps one side of the Waterfront and offers greenspace for outdoor activity.
